The ASIC Legacy systems

Upgrading PrimeCC’s legacy systems to meet modern demands was a challenge fraught with complexities. Yet, it is within these challenges that opportunities for innovation and improvement emerge. Such was the case with this PrimeCC project, they are a firm that required a significant overhaul of their ASIC extracts portal.

20+ Years old ~ and it needed an upgrade!

The task was to not only upgrade the portal but to do so while navigating a labyrinth of obstacles: difficult third-party integrations, poorly designed APIs, and a highly temperamental ASIC test system. Despite these hurdles, the mission was clear: to enhance the user experience by creating an interactive, efficient, and user-friendly interface for ordering ASIC extracts.

Slow front end

The project began with a thorough analysis of the existing system and its limitations. The outdated interface was clunky and slow, leading to frustration among users who needed to access critical financial information swiftly. The backend, plagued by inefficient integrations with third-party services, compounded these issues, making the task of ordering extracts unnecessarily complex and time-consuming.

Addressing the poorly designed APIs was the first order of business. This involved extensive negotiations and collaboration with third-party providers to find workable solutions that could be integrated seamlessly into the new system. Despite the reluctance and challenges posed by these external parties, perseverance and creative problem-solving led to breakthroughs that paved the way for more efficient data exchange and system functionality.

Issues with the ASIC test system

The temperamental ASIC test system presented another significant challenge. It was essential to ensure that the new portal could reliably communicate with ASIC’s systems, despite their unpredictability. Many times it was down (for Business Name searches) which required some additional creative error handling within the system design, ensuring that the portal remained robust and user-friendly, even when faced with unexpected responses from the ASIC test environment.

The design and implementation of the new interface focused on creating a snappy, intuitive user experience. By streamlining the process of ordering ASIC extracts and presenting information in a clear, accessible format, users could now complete their tasks with unprecedented ease and speed. The use of modern web technologies and best practices in UX design transformed the portal into an engaging platform that users were eager to interact with.

User centred design

The upgraded PrimeCC ASIC extracts portal emerged as a testament to careful planning, technical skill, and user-centered design. The project not only overcame significant technical challenges but also set a new standard for how legacy systems can be revitalized to meet the needs of modern users. In doing so, it underscored the importance of viewing obstacles not as roadblocks but as opportunities to innovate and improve, ultimately delivering a product that far exceeded expectations.
